Service Provision Policy

Preamble

Much of the MDT’s policies have over the years been through general consensus and unwritten law. With the many changes happening in the MDT as well as training in South Africa it is important that formal policy is available for all aspects of the MDT so that confusion and misrepresentation cannot occur.

Service Provision Policy

Award holders below ‘Instructor’ may not instruct formal MDT courses, but may assist on a course with a person as listed below being in charge of and present at the course.

This is consistent with the revised UIAA definitions:

A Leader (award holder below ‘Instructor’) is a person who can take responsibility for other people and lead or supervise an activity.

An Instructor is a person who can teach people including beginners so they are competent to take part in an activity.

Candidates contract a Service Provider of the MDT to undertake training and/ or assessment and are contracted to that Service Provider directly. They are in no way contracted to the MDT itself. The MDT only has financial and contractual dealings with Service Providers & not Candidates. The MDT is only an administrative, quality setting, monitoring and assurance body. The fees paid for registration and assessment are paid to Service Providers themselves, who use this to pay a licence fee to the MDT.
