Candidates who were certified prior to July 2004 will have received old style certificates which do not meet the new security requirements of the MDT. These certificates also expire at the end of 2006.

If your certificate does not look similar to the one on the right, but it is still valid, please contact the MDT Administrator who will issue a new certificate for you. If your certificate is no longer valid, please contact the Administrator who will advise you further. You must submit a details update form during this process.

MDT certifications are valid for a period of three (3) years, expiring at the end of December of the third year. This is a requirement of the MDT's recognition by the UIAA and is in order to ensure that candidates are currently competent and are up to date with the latest techniques.

Re assessment is a simple process carried out by one of the accredited Service Providers. It is primarily a logbook assessment to ensure that candidates are currently active, but if there is any doubt as to whether you are still currently competent, a practical assessment may be called for. This can be discussed with your Service Provider.

As a general guideline to current competence after certification:

Abseiling & Climbing award holders should be active in supervising and actively taking part at least every three (3) months to remain current.

Mountain Walking award holders should be actively leading trips at least every six (6) months to remain current.
